Captain Cook hangs up her boots

09.08.2016

Capt Julie Cook, Queen Alexandra’s Royal Nursing Army Corps (QARANC), supported by her colleagues at Army Training Unit North West (ATU NW) hangs up her Army boots for good to enjoy a much deserved slower pace of life.Sr Cook

Julie started her military career at 207 (Manchester) Fd Hosp before being ‘poached’ to Manchester University Officer Training Corps (UOTC) where she spent 12 years in various roles. She remained at the UOTC, and was part of the team that was successful in the merger of Manchester and Liverpool UOTCs to form the North West Officer Training Regiment (NWOTR).

Once again, due to her many talents, she was ‘poached’ from NWOTR to take up post at ATU NW and managed the posts of Accreditation and Validation Officer and Media Ops Officer whilst still finding time to provide first line medical cover to not only ATU NW staff and recruits but to all who needed her nursing expertise.

In her civvie life Julie has worked for 42 years for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust in the post of Early Pregnancy Services Coordinator as a midwife. She has been married to Greg, her former CQMS, for 38 years. They have one son, Gareth, and a beloved golden retriever Daisy who achieved her Sergeant stripes on a recent consolidated course.

Julie, Greg and Daisy now have time to enjoy their motorhome to travel where the wind takes them! Another chapter begins. Our best wishes for the future.Sgt Daisy
