New Honorary Colonel for Lancashire Army Cadets

20.02.2018

Lancashire Army Cadets have appointed a new Honorary Colonel, Charles Hadcock, a Lancashire-based artist.

Charles Hadcock was born in Derby in 1965. He studied fine art at the Royal College of Art, London, specialising in sculpture. He moved to Lancashire in 1999 with his wife and family.  In April 2007, Charles was awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise Promotion. Charles was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire in 2014.

His monumental sculptures reflect his interest in geology, engineering and mathematics and are enriched by references to music and poetry. Although widely exhibited across the UK and Europe, Charles works in Lancashire and uses local foundries, engineers and digital companies. Charles’ best-known work is ‘Passacaglia’, a 20-tonne giant monolith cast from iron, which resides permanently on Brighton Beach. Many of his public works are cast in iron and can be seen at numerous sites in London, notably at Canary Wharf, and around the country.

In addition to sculpture, Charles pursues various business interests. With his wife Camilla he established Roach Bridge Tissues from the 139-year-old Roach Bridge Paper Company near Samlesbury. They specialise in the printing of luxury tissue wrapping paper for high street shops.  He is Development Director of Roach Bridge Mill. Taking advantage of the 18th century infrastructure already in place at the Mill, he developed and project-managed the successful installation of a hydro electricity generating plant which has the capacity to supply power to the whole Roach Bridge Mill site which is an ongoing project. He has been Chairman of Creative Lancashire since its formation in 2003.

Whilst at school Charles was a keen member of the CCF and shooting team. He continues to enjoy shooting, particularly rifles. Both of his children, Albert and Tilly, enjoyed being members of Lancashire Army Cadets.
