Liverpool FC Foundation Programme for Reservists: Barracks To Bootroom

20.11.2014

The Barracks to Bootroom programme started in November 2012 to provide a specific Football offering for military Veterans in Liverpool. With participation numbers and delivery activity increasing the programme is receiving a significant amount of media coverage locally, nationally and internationally. In May 2014 Liverpool FC became the first Premier League Team to sign the MOD Corporate Covenant, and in recognition of the programmes work were invited to attend Number 10 Downing Street.

The programme is now also open to serving Reservists based or living in Liverpool. We believe that football offers the ideal platform to promote physical activity, team work, self-confidence and general good health and wellbeing. By offering ex-military service men and women regular physical activity through weekly training sessions, 5 aside tournaments and 11 a-side competitive games we believe we can create positive and sustainable changes to Veterans lives.

To date 19 participants have undertaken a range of courses such as the FA Level 1 Coaching Badge, Refereeing Level 1, Soccer Buddies and Personnel Protection with most of these resulting in employment.

The Barracks to Bootroom programme offers a range of activity and caters for all ages, abilities and fitness levels. Our offer includes Coaching Sessions held at the LFC Academy, 5 a side leagues and 11 a side invitational matches.

For organisers’ contact details, more information or if you wish to attend any of the programme’s sessions please contact Michael Sullivan, NW RFCA, by calling 0151 728 2073 or emailing [email protected]
