Mons Day Parade and The Great Send Off

19.09.2014

This year a special parade through Chester town centre commemorated the Battle of Mons, and in this the Centenary year ‘The Great Send Off’ was also remembered. It is 100 years since over 700 workers from Port Sunlight travelled to Chester and enlisted at Chester Racecourse during the First World War.

The cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers travelled from detachments across Cheshire to take part in the parade which, including the banner party, totaled over 100 cadets and adults. After the service cadets had the chance to talk to veterans who had also gathered for the parade.
