Territorial Army

The Territorial Army - Are you looking for something extra from your life? A rewarding experience outside normal working hours? Then get your hands on a piece of the action with The Territorial Army.

The TA offers the best of both worlds to people who find the idea of Army life appealing but are unable to make a full time commitment. And right now we are recruiting in the North West with 40 independent centres offering a wide variety of challenges and opportunities from which to choose.

Your local unit might be Communications, Medical, Infantry or one of the other Arms and Services. However, once in an independent unit, you are trained first and foremost as a soldier making you fitter and sharper both physically and mentally which will help you hone the particular skill or trade you have chosen.

Commitment

Your minimum commitment is around 30 days per year, including weekend training, 2 weeks Annual Camp, which occasionally is held abroad, and weekly training evenings.

If you do not feel able to make the time commitment to join an Independent Unit, and you have the necessary civilian trade or skill, you can apply to join a Specialist Unit. You will find the TA is very flexible, however, but in order to qualify for your annual tax free financial bounty a certain level of training is required. Once properly trained you may also be mobilised for temporary service alongside The Regular Army.
